Derick Brassard is on the move again.
The Penguins sent the center to the Panthers along with forward Riley Sheahan in exchange for forward Nick Bjugstad and Jared McCann on Friday.
For Brassard, the trade means suiting up for his fifth NHL team over his 12-year NHL career. The former sixth-overall pick in the 2006 draft was traded from the Blue Jackets to Broadway at the 2013 trade deadline deal for Marian Gaborik, spending three and a half seasons with the Rangers before he was sent to Ottawa in a swap that involved Mika Zibanejad. He was then traded from the Senators to the Pens at the 2018 deadline.
Brassard was long rumored to be on the move, never having found his footing in Pittsburgh, posting a total of 12 goals and 23 points in 54 games, including 9-6-15 totals in 40 games this season.
He’ll have a limited time to impress the Panthers, with the end of his five-year, $25 million contract signed with the Rangers in 2014 coming at the end of this season.
The NHL trade deadline comes on Feb. 25, with the Rangers expected to be sellers for the second straight season.
