Step aside, Miracle on Ice.
Somehow, someway the Patriots found a way to win Super Bowl LIII, despite a mysterious group of people that has apparently counted this team out at every turn.
The Patriots have nauseatingly played the underdog card after each postseason victory, and that did not change after Sunday’s 13-3 win over the Rams.
“It’s sweet, Jim [Nantz],” Patriots coach Bill Belichick said. “Everyone counted us out from the beginning of the season, midseason, we’re still here.”
Who is “everyone?” No one really seems to know, but it is obvious the Patriots have used it as motivation on their way to the sixth championship in franchise history. Tom Brady has led the underdog-card charge, and now Belichick has joined.
“Everyone thinks we suck, and you know, can’t win any games. … So, we’ll see, it will be fun,” Brady told CBS after the Patriots’ divisional-round win over the Chargers.
That game, like this Super Bowl, was one the Patriots were favorites in. The only game they were underdogs in was the AFC Championship against the Chiefs, which New England won, 37-31 in overtime.
