Meghan Markle may soon be flaunting some New York arm candy: Joseph Altuzarra’s new “Play” bag (from $1,695).
While Queen Elizabeth might blush at its design (“a row of metal buckles resembling bondage straps”), Markle has been an avid fan of Altuzarra’s since her “Suits” days.
“Her taste really hasn’t changed,” the NYC-based designer tells Threads. “She obviously has to follow more rules now, but she’s also really headstrong and has her own sense of style and her own ideas about how she wants to convey to the world what royalty is today.”
Markle recently wore a custom black pantsuit by Altuzarra that sent royal tongues wagging (the queen prefers skirts and dresses).
“I just think of [Markle] as being a very clean-line type of person,” explains the designer, who is fêting his 10-year anniversary this year, complete with a Madison Avenue pop-up shop and capsule collection at Barneys. “We never suggest prints; I don’t think that’s something she’s into.” A modern duchess, indeed.
