A man was killed and a city correction officer gravely injured in a six-car chain-reaction crash in The Bronx early Monday, authorities said.
The accident happened at around 1:15 a.m. when a 2012 GMC van collided with a 2002 Honda Civic in the left lane of the Cross Bronx Expressway near Webster Avenue, cops said.
Then a 2015 Mercedes-Benz struck the Honda, which was driven by Rikers Island Correction Officer Richard Lue, sources said. A BMW then hit the Mercedes, cops said.
When cops arrived at the scene they found a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer parked on the east side of the expressway with no occupants inside.
Authorities say the driver of the Chevy had gotten out of his vehicle and was struck by a car whose driver fled the scene. The hit-and-run driver remains at large.
The Chevy driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lue, 22, who was off-duty, was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was in critical condition.
A woman was taken to the same hospital in stable condition.
