Frat suspended after video of ‘kidnapped’ pledge surfaces

A California fraternity was suspended after a video surfaced purportedly showing a student gagged and bound to a table, according to reports.

Sacramento State’s order to Delta Chi on Friday came the same day the footage of a “kidnapped” student pledging the fraternity was sent to the Sacramento Bee newspaper.

The anonymous sender — who identified himself as a Delta Chi brother — claimed in an email Friday the fraternity abducted the prospective member while he was sleeping in November 2017.

In the eight-second footage, the pledge can be heard screaming as other men take videos and photos on their phones.

The video marked the second hazing allegation against the fraternity this year.

Delta Chi has been under investigation following a Jan. 26 tip alleging members forced pledges to participate three years ago in an “elephant walk,” the State Hornet reported. The hazing ritual typically involves walking naked in a line while holding the genitals of the person behind.

The tip included a photo of four fully clothed men simulating the ritual by holding objects in front of their crotches.

“We need a lot of information to know what all is going on in that picture,” Beth Lesen, a dean, told the State Hornet after the pic surfaced.

School officials said Saturday the scope of the university’s investigation was expanded to include the latest footage.

“I can promise you that we will be very thorough. I can promise you that we will get to the bottom of anything that may be going on,” Lesen told news station KTXL. “And I can promise you that we will be very strict that anything happening on campus is safe and appropriate for our students.”
