Man dies after falling 12 stories while cleaning his apartment window

An Upper East Side father fell to his death Friday as he tried to fix a window in his 12th-floor apartment — while his horrified wife was in another room, according to cops and witnesses.

Michael Courtian, 55, was standing on a chair, repairing a screen on a living room window at his home on East 87th Street near Third Avenue around 9:45 a.m., when he slipped and plunged to the pavement, according to police and a source.

Construction workers below heard him hit the ground — and rushed to his side and perform CPR, witnesses said.

“It’s just happened so quick,” said hardhat Humberto Vargas, 41. “I saw him standing out the window. My boss helped [a] cop give him CPR.”

Other witnesses spotted Courtian, unconscious and not breathing, with a wrench next to him. A can of WD40 was also found near his body, cops said.

“At one point I saw his lips were purple,” said Liseth Colon, 20, who works at the Maison Kayser on the first floor of the building.

His wife was home at the time, in a room near the living room when tragedy struck, according to a police source.

“I saw two men holding a lady’s arms one on each side walking her away [from him],” said Fatou Sillah, 55, who works at Modell’s Sporting Goods nearby. “She was obviously crying.”

“He left behind two very beautiful daughters,” said the neighbor, who asked not to be named.

Courtian was rushed to Metropolitan Hospital Center and pronounced dead on Friday, authorities said.

His kids were at school at the time of the fall.
