Parents cited after crazed brawl at youth wrestling tournament
A youth wrestling tournament in Wisconsin descended into chaos when a brawl broke out between adults.
Video footage of the incident shows a gaggle of adults pushing each other from the stands and rolling around on the wrestling mat at a high school gym in Kimberly, Wis. Three people were issued municipal citations for their involvement in the incident, the Fox Valley Metro Police Department said in a statement.
Cassandra Hamill, 33, Shannon Volkman, 39, and Nicole Volkman, 33, were all cited for disorderly conduct. Both Shannon and Nicole Volkman were also cited with battery.
The fight started when parents and family of opposing wrestlers started verbally trashing each other, which led to a brawl before the match was even over, according to a police report posted by the Appleton Post Crescent.
Another youth wrestler in the stands was forced to scurry out of the way and the referee can be seen watching on from the mat.
Witnesses told cops that the Volkmans cursed at the other side during the event, calling Hamill a “fat b–ch” and her son a “f–king crybaby.”
The three people cited for the brawl had a history of altercations at youth wrestling tournaments, the report said.
Hamill and both Volkmans were escorted out of the building by security, the report added. Cops arrived at the scene about an hour after the incident occurred.
The incident first gained media attention when a since-deleted video of the incident surfaced on Twitter earlier this week.
