If you are waiting to eat in the best restaurant in the world, well, be prepared to starve.

The South African Wolfgat, which won the top prize at Monday’s World Restaurant Awards, is a beachfront fine-dining establishment with an ever-evolving seven-course menu.

The 2019 “Restaurant of the Year” is also 2.5 hours from the nearest city and can only accommodate a maximum of 20 people per sitting.

Chef-owner Kobus van der Merwe’s eatery, located in the Western Cape town of Paternoster, showcases “a selection of indigenous ingredients specific to our coastal location,” with a focus on seafood, lamb and venison and seasonal greens, “enhanced by wild herbs, seaweeds from the local rock pools and pickings from the garden,” per Wolfgat’s website.

To get there, hungry gourmands will have to fly into Capetown and rent a car for the 2.5-hour drive along the coast. The tasting menu costs about $60, and wine pairings can be added for an extra $40.
