Karl-Anthony Towns is talking about his close call.
The Minnesota Timberwolves star center told media that he’s “lucky to be alive” after being involved in a car accident on Thursday that sidelined him for the past two games.
Towns was in a car that stopped while avoiding another accident, and was then hit by a semi-truck he estimated was going 35-45 miles per hour.
“The accident could have went — I’d say I had a 5 percent chance of making it out alive,” Towns told reporters. “I hit the 5 percent mark. I’d say 4 percent was to be seriously injured, and 1 percent was to be minorly injured — and I came out in the 1 percent.”
The Timberwolves announced Towns, who cleared concussion protocol, will play Monday night against the Sacramento Kings, and the 2019 All-Star is probably feeling luckier than usual, even after his streak of 303 consecutive games played came to an end because of the ordeal.
“It could have been much worse,” he said. “In all honesty, I probably should not have made it out like I did.”
