Hillary Clinton very clearly ruled out a 2020 presidential bid during an interview that aired Monday — but also said she’s not going anywhere.
“I’m not running. But I’m going to keep on working and speaking and standing up for what I believe,” the 2016 Democratic candidate for president told News 12.
“I want to be sure that people understand I’m going to keep speaking out,” Clinton continued. “I’m not going anywhere.”
Clinton said she plans to take an active role in 2020, revealing she’s already had closed-door discussions with some on the growing list of Democratic hopefuls.
“I’ve told every one of them, don’t take anything for granted, even though we have a long list of real problems and broken promises from [the Trump] administration that need to be highlighted,” Clinton said.
“We can’t take anything for granted. We have to work really, really hard to make our case to the American people, and I’m gonna do everything I can to help the Democrats win back the White House.”
The former fist lady said she is “deeply” troubled by what she sees happening to the country.
“We’ve just gotten so polarized,” she told the station. “We’ve gotten into really opposing camps unlike anything I’ve ever seen in my adult life.”
Asked if she’d ever run for any office again — including New York governor or mayor — the former Big Apple senator demurred.
“I don’t think so. But I love living in New York…,” she said.
“I care deeply about the future of New York,” the Westchester County resident continued.
“And so, again, I’m gonna do what I can to help support candidates and causes that I think are continuing to make New York a better and better place.”
