JPMorgan prepares to demolish HQ to build new one

As JPMorgan prepares to demolish its old headquarters at 270 Park Ave., archpaper.com reports that a work elevator has popped up alongside it. The 52-story structure is to come down so the bank can put up a modern, 70-story headquarters tower.

We’ll take it as a sign that JPMorgan intends to move swiftly on its demolition plan, which it filed with the city in January. As well it should: Judging by frenzied social media traffic, preservationists and architectural critics haven’t entirely given up their hope of getting 270 Park landmarked before the demo starts.

The campaign seems far-fetched — but so did the possibility that Amazon’s “done deal” could fall apart.

The Durst Organization’s Halletts Point residential project will bring 25,000 new workers to Astoria, Realty Check has exclusively learned.

But there’s a sting. Unlike the 25,000 employees Amazon pledged for Long Island City, these “workers” are not humans, but bees at 10 hives being installed around the complex.

They’ll “work tirelessly to green the neighborhood and produce hundreds of gallons of sweetener,” the developer said in an official statement, “without requiring environmental review, ULURP, approval in Albany or tax incentives.”
