Legendary announcer Jim Ross, WWE will go separate ways

Hall of Famer Jim Ross has revealed he and Vince McMahon have “mutually agreed” to end his WWE contract.

The legendary announcer’s current deal expires March 29.

And even though he says some people “surrounding McMahon” do not believe, the veteran insisted he “still has a lot to offer to the business.”

Speaking on this week’s edition of his Ross Report podcast, Good Ol’ JR said: “I’m 67, I still feel I can get the job done doing wrestling play-by-play and I want to explore that opportunity and possibility.

“I’ll be moving on in a positive way, nothing but good things to say about everyone involved. You know, I have my critics in WWE as we all do, as people do when you’re there for very long. It’s a very unique community and I have no regrets. The smartest thing I ever did was come to work for Vince McMahon in 1993.”

Speculation will now mount that the BBQ-loving commentator, who became an icon at ringside alongside Jerry “The King” Lawler throughout the Attitude Era of the ’90s, could be set for a move to the recently launched All Elite Wrestling.

“I don’t think I’ll be out of work long,” he said.

Ross left WWE in 2013 but returned on a two-year contract in 2017 after the sudden death of his wife, Jan.

He called the action on Undertaker’s memorable loss to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33 and has also provided commentary on the Mae Young Classic.

JR and “The King” also reunited in January 2018 for the 25th anniversary special of “Monday Night Raw.”

His last appearance on WWE TV was as a pre-show guest for the Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia last April.
