WASHINGTON – Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand officially announced her bid for president Sunday.
In a two-and-a-half-minute video spot, Gillibrand said, “We need to remember what it feels like to be brave.”
She said bravery is needed to end gun violence, pass universal health care, paid family leave and a “Green New Deal.”
“We need a leader who makes big, bold, brave choices. Someone who isn’t afraid of progress. That’s why I’m running for president,” she said.
Gillibrand’s first major speech will be in front of the Trump International Hotel in New York next Sunday.
She’ll also travel to Michigan and Iowa this week and appear on the new “Desus & Mero” show on Showtime.
Prior to the video announcement, the New York senator had simply formed an exploratory committee.
The move comes after a rough week for Gillibrand.
First, Politico reported that a former female staffer felt her sexual harassment complaint wasn’t taken seriously by the senator, who has championed the “MeToo” movement.
Gillibrand said she handled the issue appropriately.
Political reporters were also quick to point out that Beto O’Rourke, who announced a presidential run last week, received endorsements from two members of the New York congressional delegation, but Gillibrand still has none.
The Post also reported that one of the parents ensnared in the college scam scandal had co-hosted a Los Angeles fundraiser for her.
