At a speech in Las Vegas Saturday, President Trump derided asylum seekers who flock to the US because they fear for their safety back home — claiming they pretend to fear for their lives when they actually have the strength of UFC fighters.
“”The asylum program is a scam,” the president told Republican Jewish Coalition members at their annual meeting.
“Some of the roughest people you’ve ever seen, people that look like they should be fighting for the UFC,” he said, in a reference to the Ultimate Fighting Championship company that promotes mixed martial arts.
“They read a little page given by lawyers that are all over the place — you know lawyers, they tell them what to say. You look at this guy, you say, wow, ‘that’s a tough cookie.’
“‘I am very fearful for my life,'” he added, mockingly pretending to be an asylum seeker. ‘”I am very worried that I will be accosted if I am sent back home,'” he said.
“No, no. He’ll do the accosting.”
