A Long Island man was identified Tuesday as one of three American Marines killed in a roadside bomb in Afghanistan on Monday, the same blast that also killed hero FDNY firefighter Christopher Slutman, officials said.
Marine Cpl. Robert Hendriks, a 25-year-old from Locust Valley, was killed in the blast near Bagram Airfield, the main center of US operations in the country.
Marine Sgt. Benjamin Hines, 31, of York, Pennsylvania, was also killed with Hendricks and Slutman, US military officials said.
The military first reported that a US contractor was also killed in the blast but determined on Tuesday that he is alive.
The convoy that the three Marines were riding on hit a roadside bomb near the base north of Kabul on Monday, authorities said.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
