The city’s embattled Housing Authority struck a new contract with its maintenance staff Tuesday that will allow tenants to get weekend repairs for the first time in recent history.
The deal gives the Teamsters-repped workers a 7.4 percent cumulative raise over the four-year life of the contract.
City officials claimed that new healthcare savings — worth an estimated $8.5 million — would offset the rising wages and weekend bonuses, meaning no additional money will be needed to pay for the agreement.
Under the contract, employees can choose three new work schedules — including weekends which will get them a one-time $1,500 bonus.
