The inside scoop on this ‘gelato burger’ mashup
Don’t let the bun fool you.
The Italian gelato chain Amorino is offering customers at its Upper West Side location a wicked mashup: a frozen dessert that looks like a hamburger, The West Side Rag first reported.
“Some customers are asking if there’s actual burger meat in it,” store owner Luigi Caroggio tells The Post. No, he says, there’s not.
What the Gelato Burger has are two scoops of gelato — the flavors include pistachio, lychee and mango — nestled inside a chocolate bun. The $7.50 creation has been on the menu at the 414 Amsterdam Ave. store for around two weeks, Caroggio says, and it’s a hit with his customers: “When they order it, they try it, they love,” he says.
The idea isn’t exactly new: Italian ice cream has been served between brioche buns, and Gelato Burger had a predecessor that Amorino billed as the Focacino, Caroggio says. He described it as more like a slider, served with a toothpick through the center
He says the new Gelato Burger will be rolling out to New York’s other three Amorino locations later this month.
