Count 2019 as the best year ever for Virginia guard Kyle Guy and his fiancée, Alexa Jenkins.
Set to wed in Hawaii this summer, the soon-to-be newlyweds shared a sweet moment following Monday’s NCAA championship game, after the Cavaliers topped Texas Tech, 85-77, in overtime.
“No words,” Jenkins captioned an Instagram video of the couple’s intimate embrace.
High school sweethearts, Guy and Jenkins, both 21, announced their engagement in February.
“If you would have told 8th grade me that I’d be marrying you, I’d be hype because I had the biggest crush. But if you would have told 8th grade me that I’d be engaged at 20 I’d think I was insane. But little did I know that by 20 I’d experience the most crazy, fulfilling, forgiving, and unconditional love,” Jenkins shared on social media at the time.
Following Virginia’s crushing loss to the No. 16-seeded UMBC in last year’s tournament, Jenkins believes the tides were meant to turn for Guy this time around.
“I saw him in his lowest place,” Jenkins told the Indianapolis Star on Monday, two days after Guy hit all three free throws in the final second of Virginia’s 63-62 Final Four win over Auburn.
“This is the ultimate redemption story for him after what happened last year. My heart is bursting to see where he is now. He has grown so much as a person and worked incredibly hard as a basketball player, too. To see a person you love so much accomplish their dreams is hard to put into words. I feel like it is something we will have to process later because right now we are just trying to enjoy it.”
As the couple continues to soak up the victory, they still have other pressing matters to attend to, namely their wedding registry, after Guy said the NCAA prohibited it from being posted online.
“We’re all good folks,” Guy tweeted in response to the news.
Might be time to order that toaster.
