Julian Assange has a message for his supporters after being arrested at the Ecuadorian embassy in London Thursday: “I told you so.”
The WikiLeaks founder’s lawyer Jennifer Robinson passed on the message after meeting with him in “the police cells” while addressing reporters outside Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
“Since 2010 we’ve warned that Julian Assange would face prosecution and extradition for his publishing activities with WikiLeaks. Unfortunately today, we’ve been proven right,” she added.
“This sets a dangerous precedent for all media organizations in Europe and around the world. This precedent means that any journalist can be extradited for prosecution in the United States for having published truthful information about the United States.”
Assange was dragged out of the embassy earlier Thursday and slapped in cuffs after Ecuador revoked his political asylum.
The US Department of Justice subsequently revealed that he’s been charged with conspiring to hack into a classified government computer with Chelsea Manning.
