The band is getting back together
Ryan Murphy announced Wednesday on Instagram that he is bringing his recent Broadway revival of the incendiary Mart Crowley play “The Boys in the Band” to Netflix next year.
Joe Mantello, who co-starred in Murphy’s adaptation on the Larry Kramer play “The Normal Heart” on HBO a few years ago, will direct an all-gay cast peopled with TV stars, including Jim Parsons (“The Big Bang Theory”), Matt Bomer (“White Collar”), Andrew Rannells (“Black Friday”) and Zachary Quinto (“Heroes”).
The play opened in the summer of 2018 at the Booth Theater for a limited engagement timed to its golden anniversary.
Said Murphy,”The Broadway cast of BOYS was so important to me, and as equally groundbreaking as Mart Crowley’s seminal work. Everyone in the cast was out and proud…and feeling so blessed to mark the 50th anniversary of Mart’s landmark play.”
