Jonathan Loaisiga moves to bullpen in late Yankees rotation change

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Before Monday night’s 4-3 win over the Angels in 14 innings at Angel Stadium, Aaron Boone said Jonathan Loaisiga would start Tuesday evening in order to give his rotation an extra day of rest.

Well, Loaisiga will be promoted from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for Tuesday’s game but will be in the bullpen, Boone said after the marathon win.

That means Domingo German will start Tuesday, CC Sabathia on Wednesday and Masahiro Tanaka on Thursday.

To make room for Loaisiga, the Yankees optioned right-handed reliever Joe Harvey to SWB.

“We won’t insert the sixth starter,’’ said Boone, who likely will need Loaisiga since German hasn’t worked deep into games.

Gary Sanchez went 0-for-3 Monday night for Single-A Charleston against Kannapolis in a minor league rehab game. If the catcher didn’t suffer a setback the plan is for Sanchez to fly to Anaheim on Tuesday and come off the injured list Wednesday. He has been shelved with a strained left calf.

“He got through it and he should be on his way here [Tuesday],’’ Boone said of Sanchez.

Luke Voit homered in the first inning of Monday night’s victory and has reached base in the past 33 games — the longest streak in the majors. Voit also has a team-leading nine-game hitting streak.
