North Korean leader Kim Jong Un boarded an armored train on Wednesday and traveled to Russia for his first summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a report said.
Kim departed from North Korea earlier in the day and was expected to arrive for the meeting in Russia’s Far East city of Vladivostok on Thursday, according to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency.
Kim was accompanied by North Korean officials including Kim Phyong-Hae, O Su-yong, Ri Yong-ho, Ri Yong-gil and Choe Son-hui, Yonhap said.
Russian news outlet Sputnik said the train had arrived at the Russian Khasan railway station near the border on Wednesday.
The leader of the nuclear-armed nation is known to prefer specialized trains over airplanes for security reasons.
The summit is expected to focus on economic issues as well as denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.
