One of two men who broke into a Houston woman’s home, swiping an urn containing the ashes of her mother and peeing on a bed, has been arrested, officials said.
Marcus Cruz Ramirez, 49, was charged Monday with burglary after breaking into the home along with an accomplice in October 2018, according to Harris County Constable Precinct 1.
Surveillance footage of the property reportedly captured two men believed to be responsible for the break-in.
The homeowner reported the thieves stole numerous valuable items, including three laptops, an iPad, jewelry, cash and her mom’s remains, which were inside an urn.
She also told investigators one of the burglars peed on her bed during the theft.
An “exhaustive investigation” led detectives to Ramirez, a career criminal with arrests dating back to 1989, the Houston Chronicle reported.
Ramirez was booked Monday at the Harris County Jail on charges for burglary of a habitation.
“Ramirez has been unable to tell investigators the current location of the ashes,” the constable’s office said. “We continue to work the case and are pursuing a second suspect.”
