Driver charged in fatal hit-and-run allegedly tried to fix car after accident

A hit-and-run driver from Staten Island fatally struck a woman with his car this weekend â€” then repaired the damage to his vehicle in an attempt to cover up the crime, police said.

Johnson Kim, 74, was driving a minivan that struck 89-year-old Anastasia Diaz while she was crossing Bradley Avenue at Purdy Avenue in Castleton Corners at about 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, police said.

Diaz was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center, where she died.

Kim fled the scene and later took his car, a Toyota Sienna, to an auto-body shop to replace the damaged parts, according to police.

Cops tracked Kim down after finding surveillance video of the car and arrested him on Tuesday.

He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and tampering with physical evidence charges.
Kim was awaiting arraignment on Tuesday night.
