Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took aim at an NRA official for warning Democrats that following the far-left freshman will cost them at the ballot box.
“Friends, do you think Nancy Pelosi and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are mainstream in the United States of America?” NRA lobbyist Chris Cox asked the crowd at the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting Friday, adding that the Democrats are “in for a rude awakening in November of next year when the real America goes to the polls” if they continue to support Ocasio-Cortez’s “socialist wave.”
But AOC shot down his rhetoric on Twitter.
“Civics lesson for the NRA: As much as they may not like it, the Bronx and Queens are part of ‘the real America,’ too,” she wrote. “Wild that the NRA is suggesting the voters of NY-14 aren’t ‘real Americans’ bc they don’t think assault weapons in school classrooms is a good idea.”
Another left-wing freshman, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), piled on.
“Can ‘the real America’ please stand up…” she posted over a clip of Cox’s speech. “This Ain’t It, Chief!”
