A 1-year-old child was shot during a road rage incident involving the tot’s dad and another driver in Texas this week.
The shooting occurred just before 1 p.m. Wednesday in southwest Houston, local station KPRC reported. The child — whose gender was not released — was taken to a local hospital in stable condition and was likely to survive, with at least one gunshot wound, Houston police told the outlet.
“It appeared to be the upper left shoulder near the neck,” Lt. Alicia Smith said. “It did not appear to actually hit the neck. It was close, back shoulder.”
Immediately following the shooting, a hearing-impaired man ran into a gas station, saying that his child had been shot, a witness told the outlet.
It appeared that the child’s dad cut off another driver and then attempted to apologize — but it was too late because the shooter began firing, police told the station.
A nurse inside the station rushed to the baby’s aid and helped the distraught dad call for help.
The baby was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital, according to the report.
The shooter drove a newer-model blue Toyota or Honda.
