Bounce house goes airborne, injuring five students
Several students were injured at a Washington state high school Wednesday when a gust of wind catapulted a bouncy house at least 10 feet into the air, officials said.
A “strong gust of wind” flipped the bounce house over around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Zillah High School, carrying the students jumping inside around 240 feet, the Yakima Herald-Republic reported.
Five kids reportedly were injured in the freak accident, including one who was in critical condition.
The student received CPR at the scene before he was airlifted to Astria Regional Medical Center, officials said.
The other four suffered injuries including a possible concussion and minor damage to the knee, ankle and rib, the Yakima Herald-Republic reported.
Witnesses said the Associated Student Body was holding an event on the athletic field when the bounce house went airborne.
“We were having a fun day; everyone was having a good time with students and out of nowhere we see the bouncy house go up pretty high in the air,” sophomore Christopher Molina told news station KVEW. “It came down, it hit the cement and one girl got a concussion — the other two girls broke their legs.”
School officials released a statement saying they were investigating the incident.
“Our hearts go out to the students, parents, and staff of those involved,” the district said.
