Burger King’s new combos are anything but ‘Happy’ meals

Burger King is dunking on McDonald’s in the name of mental health awareness.

The King’s latest promotion targets the McDonald’s “Happy Meal” — but swaps in a range of other emotions, because “no one is happy all the time,” an online release stated Wednesday.

The burger chain is “asking guests to order a meal based on however they might be feeling,” the statement continued. Emotions-based combos include: Pissed Meal, Blue Meal, Salty Meal, Yaaas Meal and DGAF (Don’t Give a F–k) Meal.

They are sold in select locations, including one at 474 Seventh Ave. in New York City, and come with a Whopper, fries and a soda for about $7.

Along with the announcement, Burger King also released an ad with people experiencing complex emotions — pissed at their bosses, annoyed at being ghosted, tired of living with their parents. The tagline reads: “No one is happy all the time. And that’s OK.”

The PSA-slash-diss was made in partnership with the organization Mental Health America, whose president and chief executive, Paul Gionfriddo, said “While not everyone would think about pairing fast food and mental health, MHA believes in elevating the conversation in all communities in order to address mental illness Before Stage 4.”

And it’s true — not everyone would think about pairing fast food and mental health — recent studies have linked fast food with a higher risk of depression, in addition to obesity, diabetes, heart disease and asthma.
