Meredith teams with Katie Couric on projects for women
Meredith is teaming up with former TV news anchor Katie Couric and fashion designer Brandon Maxwell on two new video and digital offerings aimed at women.
Couric, who appeared via video at the Meredith NewFront Thursday, said she is going to spotlight women both historical and contemporary in biographical sketches in “#SeeHer Story,” while Maxwell is working with the InStyle franchise to produce “#SeeHer Style.”
On Wednesday, Reuters reported that the other wing of Meredith might be mulling a sell-off of its TV stations — but that did not seem to dent the presentations at the magazines’ NewFront at Meredith’s downtown NYC offices.
Jeremy Parsons, host of “People Now,” and Lola Ogunnaike, host of “Couch Surfing,” both on the OTT network, said their shows are now being aired on the 17 stations Meredith owns and operates in addition to digital outlets that reach 40 million viewers.
Meredith CEO Tom Harty was not at the NewFront, raising speculation as to just what might be up. Jon Werther, who succeed Harty in running the magazine division, was there but declined to comment on the broadcasting speculation.
As to a Sports Illustrated sale, one source said that the plan is still to try to get an agreement in place by the end of June, when Meredith’s fiscal year ends.
Authentic Brands, one of two known suitors for SI, is trying to negotiate a Martha Stewart -like deal whereby Meredith publishes the print magazine and the branding company handles all the licensing, clothing and ancillary products.
