Phil Mickelson, who has really embraced social media over the past few months, got caught napping this time.
While looking to go to his locker, PGA Tour pro Keith Mitchell found a sleeping Mickelson lounging out on Wednesday in preparation for the Wells Fargo Championship which starts on Thursday in Charlotte, N.C.
“Option 1, wake up @philmickelson to get my golf shoes out of my locker,” Mitchell wrote in his Instagram post. “Option 2: Play Pro-Am in my @nikeAir Max’s. Option 3: Walk around corner, find @lucas_glover__, tell stories really loud and hope he wakes up. #44-1 #wonderifheknowsmynameisKeithandnotKevin.”
The wonder-if-he-knows-my-name hashtag was a self-deprecating shot at himself and a reference to the time when NBC announcer Dan Hicks calling him Kevin Mitchell after his victory in the Honda Classic on March. 3.
After Mitchell won the tournament, he jokingly tweeted, “You can call me Kevin all you want. Just make the check out to Keith.”
Though we can safely assume Mitchell or someone eventually woke up Mickelson, this moment definitely can be filed into the “What Will Phil Do Next” archives.
