School investigating video of teacher’s aide sitting on student’s lap
A Utah school district launched an investigation this week after a video of a female teacher’s aide sitting on a male student’s lap surfaced on social media.
The cellphone video, filmed on Friday at Granger High School in West Valley City, shows a teacher’s aide sitting on a student’s lap as she uses a computer in the classroom.
A Granite School District spokesperson confirmed with News2 that the woman in the video is an employee at the high school but is withholding her identity because she is not charged with a crime.
“This employee is an hourly aide who works with students in our credit recovery program (assisting the teacher who oversees this program). She has been employed at the school since the beginning of the school year,” a district spokesperson said.
“We appreciate the parent who initially reported the video to our school administration on Friday. The employee has not been to work since it was reported. The video speaks for itself and we anticipate taking appropriate action as soon as our investigation is complete.”
A student at the high school, who did not wish to be identified, expressed alarm at the aide’s odd behavior.
“I don’t think she was innocent at all doing it,” the student said.
“It’s just very disruptive, and how can she even do that?” the student added. “It’s very sickening.”
