A teenager died while hiking with a Boy Scouts troop in an Arizona park, officials said on Thursday.
The 16-year-old was hiking Picacho Peak in Pinal County, Arizona, on Saturday when the group ran out of water, according to the local sheriff’s office.
Once the teen began to show signs of dehydration the group called for help.
Emergency responders attempted to resuscitate the boy, but he was declared dead at the scene. His name was not released.
Andy Price, an executive with the Boy Scouts’ Grand Canyon Council, says the organization is deeply saddened by the teen’s death and they’re providing support for the family and the scouting community.
“We offer our sincerest condolences to his family, and we will support them in any way that we can,” Price said.
“Please join us in keeping his family and friends everywhere in your thoughts and prayers.”
