New ‘Game of Thrones’ photos tease epic showdown in Episode 5

The penultimate episode of “Game of Thrones” Season 8 is featured in new photos release Wednesday. They tease a King’s Landing showdown between Queen Cersei (Lena Headey) and her nefarious pirate flunky Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbaek) and…pretty much everyone else. It’s Cersei against the world:

Tellingly, some key players are not shown in preview photos. Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) dramatically left the North for King’s Landing last episode, after finally getting together with Brienne (Gwendoline Christie). A relationship that built for seven seasons was over in 15 minutes. In his vague breakup speech, he didn’t make it clear if he was going after Cersei in a self-destructive way to die by her side — or whether he aims to kill her. Presumably, it will be revealed in this episode.

Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) is also on her way to kill Cersei, and she, too, is tellingly absent from photos.
