Tony Award-winning set designer Beowulf Boritt and his wife, actress Mimi Bilinski, have listed their two-bedroom co-op at 430 E. 57th St. for $1.25 million. (They bought it for $1.11 million in 2015.)
The unit, located just off Sutton Place, is in a 1926 building designed by McKim, Mead and White. Boritt won a Tony for the set design of the play “Act One” in 2014.
He was also the scenic designer for “Be More Chill,” which is running now. Next up: “Much Ado About Nothing,” followed by “Coriolanus” for this year’s Shakespeare in the Park.
“The previous owners lived in Connecticut and apparently never slept here in the 12 years they owned the apartment,” Boritt says.
“They used it to entertain. But they were friends with Kofi Annan, who stayed here for a week once after he was no longer secretary general of the UN.” Boritt designed the unit to look like a classic 1920s Manhattan home in a Noël Coward play. “I designed the ‘set’ for us to live in,” he said.
There’s classic black and white marble kitchen floor, crown moldings, hardwood floors, high ceilings and custom-made stained glass in the hallway bathroom.
The unit opens to a large foyer that leads to a living/dining area with lots of light, multiple seating areas, a woodburning fireplace and a wall of bookshelves with a library ladder.
