The series finale of “Game of Thrones” airs this Sunday, but many fans and critics argue there are still a lot of loose ends that risk going unresolved. So, what’s one way to take care of wayward plot points? Kill ’em.
At least, that’s where many “GoT” fans are putting their money. Sports gambling platform BetOnline has just released their stats on which Stark their users think will die first, whether or not Jon or Tyrion survives, and even how, exactly, Daenerys will meet her demise, among other prop bets.
So far this season, along with the torched masses of King’s Landing, several major characters have met their end, including Jamie and Cersei Lannister; Theon and cousin Euron Greyjoy; Jorah Mormont and cousin Lyanna (Lady Mormont); Ned Umber, who was found dead and pinned to the Wall; Night’s Watch Lord Commander Edd Tollett; the no-longer death-proof Beric; zombie guard “The Mountain;” “Red Witch” Melisandre; Qyburn, Missandei, Varys, The Hound and, finally, The Night King.
Still, that leaves more than 20 major players who will return for this weekend’s finale, including the three remaining Stark siblings; brave warriors Tormund Giantsbane and Brienne of Tarthe, who managed to survive the Battle of Winterfell; Grey Worm, who was basically born to die in battle; Samwell Tarly, a trained scribe who some believe may be one of the few to document tell the tale; plus one dragon and a couple direwolves.
If I were a betting woman, I’d put my money on just about everyone dying, and it seems many BetOnline users might agree. Here’s the current breakdown:
First Stark To Perish
- Arya -200
- Sansa +150
- Bran +600
Some say Arya is already gone: Maybe not dead, but the final scene of episode seven, showing Arya galloping-off on a white horse that miraculously appears amid the rubble of King’s Landing, seems to suggest she may have been taking her last ride. But if she shows up in Winterfell during the last episode, Dany will certainly have hell to pay.
Will Jon Snow Survive?
- Yes -800
- No +500
Rumor has it that writer of the GoT novel George R.R. Martin has already shared with show-runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss how Jon’s story ends, but what that is, and whether HBO will follow Martin’s arc for the King of the North, has yet to be seen. The fact the Jon, true heir to the Iron Throne and beloved leader, is so reluctant to take his place in power somehow makes his survival all the more justified.
Will Tyrion Lannister Survive?
- Yes +300
- No -500
Tyrion’s storyline from partying playboy to Queen’s hand has been one of the biggest character arcs of the show. But his favor is falling with Daenerys, who no longer trusts his word after he blabbed Jon’s true Targaryen origins to Sansa. And with the Mother of Dragon’s rapidly devolving into the Mad Queen, it’s hard to figure Tyrion will survive her wrath.
Method In Which Daenerys Targaryen Perishes?
- Arrow +1600
- Axe +800
- Sword or Dagger -600
- Fire +6600
- Physical Force +2000
- Hanging +1000
- Poison +2200
- Takes Her Own Life +1000
- Survives +300
In one of the stiffest bets, some fans are putting their virtual chips on The Unburnt getting, well, burnt. Most, though, seem to think she’ll die at the hand of another — perhaps an avenging Arya or estranged boyfriend and nephew (yuck) Jon, a.k.a. Aegon Targaryen? One thing most feel sure of: She definitely won’t survive this.
