The Giants will be without their starting left tackle this spring, as Nate Solder underwent arthroscopic surgery to clean up bone spurs in his ankle. He is expected to return to full health by training camp this summer, The Post confirmed. NFL Network was first to report Solder’s procedure.
Durability has never been a problem for Solder. Not only did he start all 16 games last season — his first with the Giants after seven years with the Patriots — but he also played every single snap in 2018, meaning he was on the field for all 1,027 offensive plays for the Giants.
Solder struck it rich in free agency, signing a four-year, $62 million contract with the Giants, at the time making him the NFL’s highest-paid offensive lineman. It was not an easy immediate transition for Solder with his new team, but he graded out better in the second half of the season.
The Giants begin their organized team activity practices on Monday. Without Solder lining up at left tackle, Brian Mihalik or Victor Salako can fill in while Solder heals. With the signing of Mike Remmers to presumably start at right tackle, the Giants could also swing Chad Wheeler over to left tackle if need be.
