Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel roast Bill de Blasio over 2020 bid

Bill de Blasio’s longshot presidential aspirations became fodder for late-night television on both coasts Thursday night.

In their respective roasts, Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert pointed to a recent poll that showed 76% of New Yorkers don’t want the termed-out mayor to run in 2020.

“Maybe he’s running for president so he can get away from all the people who hate him in New York,” quipped Brooklyn-born Kimmel, whose show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” films in Hollywood. “I really don’t know what Bill de Blasio is thinking — he has no chance of winning.”

On Thursday, de Blasio put months of hemming and hawing to an end in announcing his bid for presidency — making him the 24th Democratic candidate to enter the race.

“At this point, announcing you’re running for president is like announcing you’re running a 5K,” Kimmel continued. “Good for you. No one cares. Don’t post pictures.”

Meanwhile, the audience at “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” which is taped in Manhattan, let out a collective groan as Colbert noted that “another new Democratic candidate pushed his way into the clown car.”

“You hear the hometown crowd warmly receiving that,” he joked. “De Blasio’s announcement was met with a resounding, ‘Really? Why?’”

Colbert’s monologue include a clip from de Blasio’s announcement video, which shows him zooming around the city in the back of an SUV and cracking, “Good thing about New Yorkers is they look the same whether they’re pissed off at you or they like you.”

“Mr. Mayor, I have some bad news,” Colbert said. “They all look the same because they’re all really pissed off at you.”
