First look: Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington stoke ‘Little Fires’
Cue the fire emojis: Reese Witherspoon isn’t satisfied just telling “Big Little Lies.”
The star and executive producer of HBO’s hit series dropped the first look Tuesday of her next project: Hulu’s “Little Fires Everwhere.” The eight-episode limited series is based on Celeste Ng’s best-selling mystery novel of the same name.
In an image posted to her official Instagram account, Witherspoon raves, “Bringing it back to the`90s! Meet Mia Warren and Elena Richardson. So excited to be shooting @LittleFiresHulu with the incredibly talented @kerrywashington! 🔥🔥🔥#littlefireseverywhere”
No air date has been nailed down as of yet, but Washington will star as vagabond photographer Mia Warren in the upcoming streaming adaptation. Witherspoon takes on the role of local newspaper woman Elena Richardson.
Both actresses are also executive producers on the project, which revolves around two families living in 1990s Shaker Heights, Ohio, who are brought together through their children.
The “Scandal” star also shared the shot, which features the duo staring down the camera on a folksy Midwestern kitchen set: “Yup. The 🔥 just got LIT at @LittleFiresHulu 🤣 Meet Elena Richardson and Mia Warren. #LittleFiresEverywhere @reesewitherspoon 🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️.”
Washington looks badass in bobbed hair and head-to-toe black, while Witherspoon cooks up a dose of deja vu with her ’50s-style housewife number, complete with pearls and strappy, cherry-red heels. The Oscar winner almost looks like a grown up version of her character from the 1998 period piece, “Pleasantville.”
The first in-character shot comes on the heels of a cute kid and pup snapshot posted Monday on the Hulu series’ official Instagram account. The caption reads, “We’re just getting started 🔥🔥🔥 #LittleFiresEverywhere.”
