Trying to give the Mets bullpen some help, Noah Syndergaard walked out to the mound for the seventh inning Saturday with 98 pitches under his belt.
Four pitches later, he walked off with a trainer while limping and grabbing at the back of his right leg at Citi Field on Saturday night. It was determined to be a right hamstring strain.
Syndergaard had been solid through six innings, giving up three runs, but allowed a single and a fifth stolen base before manager Mickey Callaway and trainer Brian Chicklo came to visit him on the mound.
Robert Gsellman entered in relief and allowed three runs to score before escaping the inning with the Mets’ lead over the Cardinals still intact, 8-6.
