An NYPD sergeant was harassed by his brothers in blue because he’s Egyptian, he claims in a lawsuit.
Higher-ups at Staten Island’s 123rd Precinct allegedly harangued Kappa Farid, 54, for his Arabic accent, called him “sand monkey,” refused to let him speak at meetings and switched him to a midnight tour against his wishes — prompting his wife to ask for a divorce, according to the Brooklyn Federal Court lawsuit he filed against the city and the NYPD.
Farid was also prevented from working overtime and forced to give a negative evaluation for a gay officer, he charges in court papers that claim “significant” harassment, Farid’s lawyer Marshall Bellovin said.
The city will review the suit, a Law Department spokesman said.
