Is Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes’ ‘Senorita’ duet hot or not?
Summer is officially on, thanks to Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello.
Combining their considerable pop powers, the “In My Blood” singer-songwriter and the former Fifth Harmony member dropped their summer-ready duet “Señorita” on the first day of the season early Friday.
A strummy serenade set to a lilting, finger-snapping groove, “Señorita” is as easy on the ears as these two are on the eyes. (The sexy video, released simultaneously with the song, attests to just how ridiculously good they both look.)
Having previously collaborated on the 2015 single “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” the Toronto-born Mendes, 20, and the Cuban-born Cabello, 22, have a natural chemistry that makes you believe that they’re really hot for each other on “Señorita.”
“You say, ‘We’re just friends’/But friends don’t know the way you taste-la-la-la,” coos Cabello before they both confess being “hooked on your tongue” to each other.
But this slow-burner, with its nods to Cabello’s Latin heritage, never fully turns up the heat, playing it safe enough to keep from corrupting their young fan bases.
And it’s hard to believe that it took a whopping eight co-writers — including Mendes, Cabello and Charli XCX — to whip this ditty up. That won’t hardy matter, though, as “Señorita” inevitably ascends up the charts.
