That package deal everyone has talked about for months doesn’t seem so likely.
If it does happen, it may just be by coincidence.
Kevin Durant isn’t worrying about where fellow high-priced free agent Kyrie is going when it comes to where he will sign, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting.
“One thing I’m told is he is really focused on making his decision independently of anyone else and that includes Kyrie Irving,” Wojnarowski said during the NBA draft Thursday night. “He’s at a point in his career where he’s going to decide really essentially on a four-year deal elsewhere or a five-year deal with Golden State, where he’s going to spend the rest of his prime.”
Wojnarowski went on to say the Warriors, Nets, Knicks and Clippers are “significant considerations” for Durant, who will likely miss next season after rupturing his Achilles tendon during the NBA Finals.
For months, the expectation was the two would pick a new team together. It was speculated the Knicks were a favored landing spot for the duo. But that was before Durant’s injury and before the Nets emerged as a front-runner to sign Irving.
