Serial burglar looted Greenwich Village restaurants: cops

Cops are looking for a suspect responsible for a series of restaurant burglaries that took place over a two-hour time span in Greenwich Village, police said Sunday.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, around 3:45 a.m., the suspect forced open a front window at 715 Washington Street, otherwise known as Upholstery Food and Wine, an Austrian-inspired oyster and wine bar, and stole approximately $30 in cash from an envelope next to the cash register before fleeing, according to police.

About an hour later and just a few blocks over, at 5 a.m., the suspect forced open the patio door to Rosemary’s, an Italian restaurant located at 18 Greenwich Avenue, and removed $40 cash from an envelope in the manager’s office –– all of which is captured on surveillance footage released by the police.

In his third — and last reported — burglary, the suspect forced open the front window to a Mexican joint called La Contenta located at 78 West 11th street, cops said. He snagged $400 in cash from the register and fled after an employee challenged him inside, police said.

The suspect is between the ages of 18-to-25 years old.

None of the restaurants were immediately available to comment.
