An NYPD officer’s gun went off while the cop was wrestling over it with a burglary suspect on Wednesday afternoon in Brooklyn, police and law enforcement sources told The Post.
Authorities were conducting a home visit in response to a report of a burglary near the intersection of Paerdegat Eighth and East 80th streets in Canarsie around 3:30 p.m. when the suspect ran off, prompting the cop to chase after him, sources said.
The suspect then allegedly reached after the officer’s gun, sources said.
“They were wrestling for it,” a high-ranking source said.
One shot was discharged during the struggle, police said. No one was struck and no injuries were immediately reported.
At some point during the incident, the suspect jumped out a rear window at the location.
He was ultimately taken into custody. Charges against him are pending.
