Police release new video of suspect in Stuy Town attempted rape
Authorities have released new video of the man suspected of choking a woman unconscious and trying to sexually assault her in Manhattan.
The footage, released late Tuesday by police, shows the suspect inside a nearby subway station around the time of the June 29 attack, cops said.
He’s seen in the video wearing a gray undershirt and holding a blue button-down shirt in his right hand as he reaches into his pockets before approaching the turnstiles and hopping over.
Investigators believe the man approached his 20-year-old victim from behind near Stuyvesant Oval in the Stuy Town shortly after 5 a.m. and choked her. She resisted, but ultimately passed out, at which point he attempted to sexually assault her, police said at the time.
His attack was thwarted by a witness who intervened, scaring off the suspect, cops said. The good Samaritan called 911, and the suspect fled west on 17th Street hearing toward Second Avenue, cops said.
The victim was taken to an area hospital.
Police previously released several images of the woman’s attacker, and asked that anyone with information call NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
