Where Rangers’ salary cap stands as busy offseason continues

The Rangers’ shadow roster of two goaltenders, five defensemen and 12 forwards, as compiled by The Post, accounts for approximately $72,531,000. This leaves general manager Jeff Gorton with around $8,969,000 which with to deal with restricted free agents Jacob Trouba, Tony DeAngelo, Pavel Buchnevich and Brendan Lemieux while completing the 2019-20 roster.

Here is an annotated review of the situation:

Goaltenders

Henrik Lundqvist, $8,500,000; Alex Georgiev, $792,500.
— Igor Shesterkin’s NHL salary is $925,000 and does not count against the cap in Hartford.

Defensemen

Kevin Shattenkirk, $6,650,000; Marc Staal, $5,700,000; Brady Skjei, $5,250,000; Adam Fox, $925,000; Libor Hajek, $833,333.
— Trouba (salary arbitration eligible) and DeAngelo unsigned.
— Brendan Smith assigned to AHL Hartford.
— A Shattenkirk buyout would save $5,166,667 this year and $567,667 next year, but would add $1,433,333 in dead space for both 2021-22 and 2022-23.

Forwards

Artemi Panarin, $11,642,857; Mika Zibanejad, $5,350,000; Chris Kreider, $4,625,000; Vlad Namestnikov, $4,000,000; Ryan Strome, $3,100,000; Jesper Fast, $1,850,000; Kaapo Kakko (unsigned, but will receive entry-level cap of $925,000); Vitali Kravtsov, $925,000; Filip Chytil, $894,166; Lias Andersson, $894,166; Brett Howden, $863,333; Greg McKegg, $750,000.
— Buchnevich (salary arbitration eligible) and Lemieux unsigned.

AHL

Smith, $3,275,000, Matt Beleskey, $825,000.
— A Smith buyout would save $2,304,167 this year and $129,167 next year, but would add $1,145,833 in dead space for both 2021-22 and 2022-23. Smith’s NHL cap hit is $4,350,000.

Dead space

Dan Girardi buyout, $3,611,111; Ryan Spooner (retained following buyout): $300,000.
— Girardi buyout will account for $1,111,111 of dead space for each of the three seasons beginning with 2020-21. Spooner’s retained cost will be $300,000 for 2020-21, as well.

Subtotals: Goaltenders, $9,292,500; Defensemen, $19,358,333; Forwards, $35,869,522; AHL, $4,100,000; Dead space, $3,9111,111.
Total: $72,531,466.
Note: Kreider, Namestnikov, Fast, Beleskey and McKegg are eligible to become unrestricted free agents following this season while Strome, Georgiev and Nieves stand to become restricted free agents.
