Car bursts into flames during gender reveal joyride fail
This gender reveal went up in smoke.
The sedan of an Australian driver doing burnouts — with blue smoke billowing behind to indicate a baby boy on the way — suddenly burst into flames after the daring stunt went awry last year in rural Norwell, Queensland. Police released the video Tuesday to prevent others from attempting the dangerous reveal, according to local outlets.
Samuel Montesalvo, 30, was the driver of a black Holden Commodore equipped with special smoking tires. Friends and family were recording the colorful smog when the car stopped abruptly in the street. The bright blue plumes quickly turned black as the car was set ablaze.
Onlookers frantically pulled Montesalvo and a passenger from the fire. Another bystander jumped back into the burning vehicle to move the car from the road.
The pandemonium was recorded overhead by a drone, whose footage was obtained by local cops.
“Doing that sort of thing on a public road with people standing by the car as you’re moving towards them is a pretty silly thing to do,” Queensland policeman Hilton Buckley told 9 Gold Coast News. “Things like this, because of social media, they do give people ideas … and people think it’s a great idea and want to try themselves.”
Montesalvo was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fined $1,000 and banned from driving for six months.
It’s unclear if Montesalvo is the baby’s father.
Absurd gender reveal antics are picking up in popularity: A Florida couple recently recorded their pet alligator chomping down on a balloon to proclaim “it’s a girl,” while a North Carolina man jumped out of a plane into a cloud of pink smoke.
