Pelosi’s pals hit back at AOC’s team in angry tweets

Progressives in Congress trained more public criticism on the Democratic Party’s centrists, and the House’s official Twitter account hit back with a late-night tweet attacking Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti.

Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Oregon) blamed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for caving to Republicans on a bill to fund US Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention centers at the southern border, calling the $4.6-billion legislation “horrendous.”

“The complete assumption on the Senate side was that Speaker Pelosi would take it to conference, and she didn’t,” Merkley reportedly said at the annual left-wing Netroots Nation conference Friday.

AOC has been tangled in a heated dispute in recent days, after blasting Pelosi for being “outright disrespectful … of newly elected women of color.”
