The impossible is finally happening: A meatless burger will be sold at Burger King locations nationwide starting Aug. 8.
The fast-food chain announced today that it’s adding the much-hyped Impossible Whopper, made with a plant-based beef patty by meatless meat purveyor Impossible foods, to its permanent menu.
Burger King initially tested the Impossible Whopper in St. Louis back in April, then gave the sandwich a trial run in a number of other major markets, including San Francisco, Las Vegas, Miami, Baltimore and Montgomery, Ala.
A recent inMarket report found that these locations experienced a surge in Whopper orders with the new alternative-meat addition.
To promote the new dish, Burger King is offering free delivery of the Impossible Burger via DoorDash from Aug. 8 through Sept. 1.
Customers can also opt for the “Impossible Taste Test” — a two-Whopper combo deal of one real and one Impossible burger — for $7 and no delivery fee, with the code IMPOSSIBLE at checkout.
For those who aren’t fans of fast food, the FDA just announced that Impossible Burger has been approved for direct-to-consumer sales in grocery stores, following an extended review on the company’s breakthrough ingredient, soy leghemoglobin, which gives the product its distinctly meaty look and taste.
Impossible Foods hits select retail outlets in September, where they’ll be in direct competition with other vegetarian meat maker Beyond Meat.
