A McDonald’s combo supersized her heart.
Last Sunday, mother Heidi Goforth and her son were ordering breakfast burritos at the drive-thru. When they arrived at the window to pay, they discovered that their bill had already been covered.
Her paid receipt had a note: “My son is in the airforce. I can’t buy him breakfast so I bought yours. Have a blessed day.”
Goforth did not know the identity of the mystery AirForce mom, but was touched by the gesture, and shared the good deed on Facebook.
“I just had this happen to me. It touched my heart sooo much!” writes Goforth, who lives in Tennessee. “I was buying breakfast for my son at McDonald’s and the sweet lady in front of me in the drive-thru paid for my meal.
“I pray that you see your son soon! He’s lucky to have a mom that loves him so much! God bless you and him! Tell him thank you for his service.”
Her post caught the attention of the local news, which ran a short story on the kind act — and the generous mom, Caryn Scherm Hill, spotted it. She took to Facebook to find Goforth’s post.
“It was my pleasure,” she replies in the comments. “Kindness can create such a wave of emotion. How extra special that you were getting breakfast for your son!!! My son has 17 days remaining in Basic Military Training, testing this week and BEAST WEEK next. I will see him at graduation very soon.”
Hill, who says that the post made her “[cry] like a baby,” says she loves performing “random acts of kindness,” inspired by the love she has for her military son.
“[They] can make so many of us happy,” she writes. “Heidi you made me smile, laugh, and cry so much in the last 12 hours!!!!”
The pair went on to exchange several comments on the post. Goforth tells TODAY that the two women have also since been exchanging Facebook messages ever since.
“I think it touched me so much because I had a younger brother in the Navy but he is no longer with us,” writes Goforth on Facebook. “Just the familiarity of wanting to see someone you love and can’t. I definitely believe that this was God reaching to us to let us know that our loved ones are thinking of us.”
The post touched several other military parents and neighbors, who joined the post’s comments.
“Reading this gave me goose bumps!” writes one, Sarah Dunback. “You have just reminded us all that there are good people in this world and a little bit goes along way.”
